TRANSSION HOLDINGS under one of its sub-brand know as TECNO has just announced and released another device in September, 2020. After going through their website and the Chipset company used, I then decided to drop this review and it's full Specifications as it is hot. Don't forget that the Tecno Camon 16 premier is still making waves and has not even gotten to every corner yet in NIGERIA.
This is an article based on the September, 2020 announced and released Tecno POVA, yes that's the name of the device. This line of Naming is just coming into limelight. It remains to be seen how many Tecno Devices will still be released before the ending of 2020.
Without further ado let's begin to talk about this device. What really does Tecno Pavo has that other brands doesn't?
To me the most talking point of the device would be the giant 6000 mAh battery and the Hello G80 Chipset used on it. The same Processor used on the Redmi 9.

HERE IS THE FULL REVIEW OF THE TECNO POVA
From the second quarter of 2020 and with their two new devices, the Tecno Camon 16 premier and now the Tecno POVA. I can categorically affirm that Tecno mobile are gradually upping their games in terms of Chipset used. They used the MediaTek Helio G90T on Tecno Camon 16 premier and now they have also used the MediaTek Helio G80 Chipset. All tagged as gaming Processors. It remains to be seen if the HiOS will be Optimized enough to utilize these Chipsets properly and adequately.
DISPLAY
As usual, you don't need to struggle in order to get giant screens these days on mobile smartphones especially android. The screen department has evolved greatly and new technologies are introduced daily. But in this case it is a normal but big display rated at 6.8 inches dot in display screen. A really large screen. Very soon we might be having 7.0 inch displays as screen size tends to increase daily becoming a norm these days.
The dot in display is located at the top left side corner of the screen cut out for the front facing camera. It really added beauty to this device. The screen is a HD LCD Capacitive touch screen capable of display 16 million Colours. Not bad for a.low end mid ranger.
Still on the display, the Height is 71.23mm and an accompanied Width of 77.57mm. It's Thickness is 9.4mm 6.8" HD screen. Really this is a large screen and can't be operated with a single hand. But will be sweet for movie Watching and streaming, also it would be great for gaming based on the screen size and the processor.
The screen resolution is a old 720 by 1640 Display which is not that great for such a giant screen really. I think this should have been better. The ppi density is around 300 and the brightness level is approximately 400 nits.
You won't struggling trying to view the screen content under direct sunlight. But the screen looks whitish and can affect the eye when used for a long time except with the help of an Eye care. In terms of display, it is a nice one considering that it is a budget phone. But the price which I will discuss towards the end will determine if this is a good buy or a value for money.
CHIPSET OR MICROPROCESSOR
I will dwell mostly on this heading. The Chipset is the MediaTek Helio G80 Chipset. The G there stands for Gaming. Which implies that this device sole aim or design focus is based on its ability to game properly with a Game Assistant v2.0.
The G80 Chipset has all it takes to play you comfortable games like PES 2020, PuB G and the likes. But don't expect it's performance to out smart the MediaTek Helio G90T Processor because that is a higher version. And don't forget that there is still a MediaTek Helio G85 Processor in between them.
The graphics processor is an ARM Mali-G52 MP2 ( – 950 MHz). It's Central Processing unit is an Octa-core CPU, clocked at about 2GHz frequency speed.
A 64-bit, Octa-core CPU with Cortex A75. This Processor was fast enough to handle tough task but there were still some draw backs honestly.
STORAGE And RAM
Tecno were generous with the storage capabilities of this phone. It has an internal storage of 128GB as seen. It might probably come with a 64GB storage variant when it finally arrives Nigeria.
This storage should be sufficient enough for whatever files or data an individual intends in storing into the device.
RAM: The 6GB of RAM is absolutely fantastic making the Hello G80 Chipset have enough space for multitasking abilities. An truth be told that the multitasking department was average due to poor UI Optimization. But I believe it can be corrected or improved via system update. In all the storage department is alright and should be sufficient enough especially with the provision of dedicated SD CARD SLOT for expansion of storage space.
MAIN CAMERA
We'll, the camera department is where we won't dwell much because the mega pixel used are very low. And if you are looking for a phone based on photos then this is not the device for you. You can switch to phones like Tecno Camon 16 premier, INFINIX ZERO 8, Redmi Note 8 Pro, Redmi Note 9 pro, Redmi K30 and many more. Check the Reviews thread on this site.
Tecno Pavo has a 13MP Quad Rear Camera with Quad Flash. The 13MP is for wide, 2MP for Depth, 2MP for macro and the last 2 MP for ultra wide. It has an AI lens, quad LED flash, 1080p@30fps video recording. Due to its Quad flash nature the device was able to take pictures at night clearly and colourfully. This is not a picture Phone and this camera Specifications should not pose as a threat because this phone is game centric.
SELFIE CAMERA
On the front facing camera is an 8MP Front Camera with Dual Flash. In the sense that the selfie camera has a flash attached and can be used conveniently at nights. With also an AI, dual flash,a Face Recognition, and a 1080p@30fps video capture. Overall in terms of camera this device has a poor one.
PLATFORM OR OS
Tecno's owned HiOS 7. 2 based on Android™ 10 is flashed into this device. The HIOS customisation is not the best you could get but on this one they promised a total revamp and a better performance in terms of UI Customisation.
Remember I always give credit in this department to OEMs like Xiaomi MIUI, Samsung oneUI, Hauwei and the colour OS on Realme Devices. It's time brands like Tecno up their games in order to keep up with other brands. Especially in the area of releasing frequent system update. Most times the Android and UI version made with a device out of the box, dies with the device in the box, no update whatsoever.

The Tecno POVA has a support for GSM, GPRS, FULL EDGE, 3G HSDPA+ and 4G LTE which is good for the device in terms of connectivity. The 4G support should enhance user gaming process especially on games that depends on internet connection. Although 4G is yet to be available in most part of Nigeria.
other forms of connectivity supports include WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, FM Radio and On The Go OTG support. There are basic connectivity supports fabricated into this device.
In terms of Music Support it can play PCM, AAC / AAC + / eAAC + / MP3 / AMR – NB / WB / APE
An Audio jack support with the 3.5 mm audio jack available. The Loudspeaker is a Mono down firing speaker and a Video Support H.264/MP4/MPEG4 player embedded.
SECURITY AND SENSORS
In terms of Sensor and the security of this device, this phone has a fingerprint sensor as the main security interface. Other security options include the pattern, Pin, password and face unlocking options. All these are good for such a low end mid range device.
Other forms of sensors include the G-Sensor, Ambient Light Sensor, Proximity Sensor, Fingerprint Sensor and an Electronic Compass. There is no NFC support.
BATTERY AND CHARGING SPEED
As a gaming device,. Tecno thought it through to attached a hug giant Non-Removable Lithium-Polymer 6000 mAh battery seen for a long time on a device of this magnitude. This 6000 mAh battery was able to produce close to 18 hours of outright gaming.24 hours of heavy usage almost 2 days on light usage. This data's depends on an individual usage and other factors such as Network quality, screen backlight level.and so on. Expect a bit.of higher battery consumption due to the screen size also.as.it is a big one.
The charging speed was capped at the moderately speed of 18W. Not bad though, but due to the high battery capacity I think that the charging speed should have been increased to probably 33W charging. Although it depends on if the Chipset support such a high charging speed calibration. It doesn't not support wireless or reversible charging ability.
Overall charging time using the 18W charging brick lasted for 3 hours. Too long for me. And this is when the device is turned off. But can get to about 4 hours if while charging, the device is being used at the same time. So know what you are buying.
DESIGN LANGUAGE
In terms of design, I think most OEMs are trying this days. Producing sleek, slim, shiny devices every time. Although the protection used on this Devices matters. Take this Tecno POVA for example. The phone doesn't not support any form of Gorilla Glass as protection either on the front or back.
A plastic looking poly carbonate material was used on this though. When looked from afar it doesn't look cheap, honestly. But it feels cheap to touch when compared with the like of Devices using Corning gorilla glass 3 or 5 as protection on both front and the back. The weight was getting close to 220 gram such a heavy device.

Tecno POVA has the following Colours all which are enticing.

PRICE
The price circulating is around $150 which is around N60, 000 in Nigeria. Not to bad for a device of such. But it remains to be seen if it will officially go at this price in Nigeria.

CONCLUSIONS
If you have been looking for a budget device meant for gaming, then here is another option for you.
It's performance in terms of gaming was just a little bit above average and it's manageable.
But if you are a heavy gamer, I will advise that you go for higher brands with higher Processors like G85, G90T, SD dimensity 700 G series.
When you lay hold on thi device, you will do that knowing that with average expectations, the Tecno POVA will serve its purpose adequately.
