The wait would soon be over as Apple reportedly testing new iPhone with USB-C port

Following respected industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo suggesting earlier this week that Apple could switch from Lightning to USB-C with iPhone 15 next year, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman is out with a new report today doubly down on Kuo’s earlier insight, saying the iPhone maker is internally testing a new model with a USB-C port amid pressure from a legislation from the European Parliament to replace Lightning with USB-C on future products.

“Apple Inc. is testing future iPhone models that replace the current Lightning charging port with the more prevalent USB-C connector, according to people with knowledge of the situation,” writes Gurman. “In addition to testing models with a USB-C port in recent months, Apple is working on an adapter that would let future iPhones work with accessories designed for the current Lightning connector, said the people, who asked not to be identified because the matter is private.”

Despite it previously being believed Apple would continue to use the Lightning Connector on all future products until wireless charging eventually replaces the need for wired charges, it would seem that Apple is now bending to EU pressure to adopt the USB-C standard across its products sold across Europe.
