Complete Guide, Review and Price of Gionee M15 in Nigeria

It might interest you to know that Gionee are entry level and midrange device centred. The new Gionee M15 was launched back in May 2021 with some keenly interesting features.

Some of its highlights include:

In summary the Key Specs

  • SCREEN = 6.67 inch LCD display
  • WEIGHT = 212g
  • MAIN CAMERA = 48 MP main sensor
  • PLATFORM = Android 11 Amigo UI
  • RAM = 8 GB RAM
  • STORAGE = 128GB ROM
  • FINGER PRINT: Rear fingerprint scanner
  • CHIPSET = Helio G90 Octa-core processor
  • BATTERY SIZE = 5200mAh Li-Po 18W fast Charging Technology

CHIPSET OR MICROPROCESSOR

Gionee M15 houses the Mediatek MT6785 Helio G90 (12 nm) processor. It's CPU is an Octa-core (2x2,05 GHz Cortex-A76 & 6x2,0 GHz Cortex-A55) and a GPU: Mali-G76 MC4. This Chipset is very close to the Helio G95 Chipset used on the likes of Redmi note 10S and Tecno Phantom X. This Chipset is game centered hence the G attached to it.

It's performance is normal and won't be regretted as a light user. The Chipset was able to handle tedious tasks normally. Although it gets hot after some time.
The overall performance of this Chipset is average and it should not pose any threat to any one who is willing to get one of this device. One thing lacking though is the absence of 5G network on the device if it finally arrives Nigeria.

STORAGE/RAM

The storage department of this device has no question mark at all because Gionee have rightly embedded enough RAM AND STORAGE into this device.

The internal storage is upto 128GB plus an additional dedicated slot for an SD CARD. Its RAM is 8GB  in size, enough to retain apps on the background for some time.

Storage configuration:

  • 128GB 6GB RAM,
  • 128GB 8GB RAM
  • Memory Card slot: microSDXC (dedicated slot)

DISPLAY

An LCD screen is what you will be greeted with when you unbox this phone. It is a big screen having a Size of about 6.67 inches, 107.4 cm2 (~84.4% screen-to-body ratio). The screen is very large enough to be used for gaming and media files.
Screen Resolution is a 1080 x 2400 pixels, 20:9 ratio with an approximately ~395 ppi density. The brightness level isn't that great though. One would have expected at least an AMOLED screen on this device based on price and what is obtainable from other brands.

MAIN CAMERA

Gionee M15 has a Quad camera s setup.
The main camera lens is a 48 MP wide lens. Attached to this are 5 MP for ultrawide, 2 MP, (macro) and the last 2 MP for (depth).
Features of these cameras include LED flash, HDR, panorama and Video recording at 1080p@30fps.
The output of the pictures were normal and a bit noisy.
Selfie Camera: Single - 16 MP Video: 1080p@30fps

PLATFORM/UI

Gionee included android version 12 out of the box on the Gionee M15 smartphone. Gionee's Amigo UI is the custom skin for this device. The optimisation is fluid but with a lot of bloatwares. The UI still needs retouching for more efficiency.

SECURITY

A rear fingerprint scanner is on the Gionee M15 and it is very fast and responsive.  Due the the large size of the device you might find it a little bit difficult to reach for the scanner when using the device with a single hand.
Other security measures available include pattern, pin and face unlock.

BATTERY

A big 5100mAh battery is powering this device. The battery under normal usage last for at least 24 hours while on heavy usage you will get at least 12 hours of SCREEN ON TIME (SOT). The charging speed calibration is poor though. It is capped at 18watt only. Which takes about 2 hours to fully charge from 0% to 100%.

BUILD QUALITY

Nothing is special or captivating about the design as Gionee decided to keep this device on a low key. The material used is glassy in nature and the overall feel is average.
There is a USB type C port, a loudspeaker, 3.5mm headphone jack on the body of this device. What a great addition.

CONNECTIVITY
Gionee M15 supports 4G LTE network, a Bluetooth and a WiFi connectivity.

PRICE

Gionee M15 is currently selling at about NGN 106, 000 on Jumia. For the 8GB RAM and 128GB ROM variant. you can click on our link to purchase from Jumia.

  • 3.5mm headphone jack

CONCLUSION

I would conclude by saying that am not too happy about this price because Redmi note 8 2021 is currently selling at almost half the price of the Gionee M15 with even better hardware features and design. This phone is great but before you buy I will advice you visit other brands to see what is at stake.
