Step-by-Step Guide on How to Retrieve or Register For Fresh NIN & Confirm Your SIM Registration & Linking Status with Your National Identification number (NIN)

National Identity Management Commission ask Nigerians to use dial *346# to retrieve your NIN number on the line used during NIN REGISTRATION. Don't forget N20 charging fee though.
I decided to make this blog post days after Nigerian Communications Commission [NCC] give two weeks deadline for subscribers to provide valid National Identification Number (NIN) to update SIM registration records.

This USSD code is available for customers to all customers using MTN, Airtel, 9mobile and Glo networks.

To Confirm your mobile number (s) registration status to avoid being blocked by NCC. Follow the following steps


  • MTN - dial *789*1# 

Please use the below link to update your NIN number on your MTN registered number or numbers.

This give MTN an avenue to have update of your NIN number.

3. Third step: Enter the OTP sent to your line for final submission as seen below:





  • Airtel subscribers only; Use this number to link your NIN number to ur Airtel line: *121*1#


  • Glo - text REG to 746 or 3456


For subscribers who have not done the registration for National Identity Card, can follow the STEP-BY-STEP GUIDE in enrolling your self for the NIN.

Step 1

  • Fill the NIMC Pre Enrolment online form on the NIMC portal 
  • Input the correct information in all the mandatory fields in the form.
  • Download and print your Pre Enrolment Slip.


Step 2

  • Submit Your Application
  • Walk to any nearest NIMC Registration Centre with any one of the following Original and Valid supporting documents.
  • At the Enrolment Center, you will be directed to a counter where Enrolment Officer will verify all the details provided on your application form.
  • If your application is in order, Enrolment officer will guide you to proceed with the capturing of your biometrics (ten finger prints and facial image) and then you will collect the Transaction ID Slip as evidence of the transaction.


Step 3

  • Collect your NIN
  • The normal time frame to get your National Identification Number (NIN) Slip is within 2 to 3 working days from the time that you capture your biometric details at the enrolment centers.
  • The issuance of NIN can take longer time for some cases sake of validation of details for NIMC. 
  • You have to keep to keep the Transaction ID Slip very safe as it could be needed at the time of collection of NIN Slip.
